Committee Meeting
February 5th, 2013 5:00 pm – 7:25 pm

Attendees: Doug Lohmeier, John Ranz, Stiney Vonderhaar, Chief Korte, Chief Hauck, Dave Nichols, Jack Cameron, Mayor Apking, Jim Brockschmidt

1. Police

• Octotraffic
        Chief Korte reported that he has heard rumors that surrounding communities are evaluating using cameras to issue traffic citations in certain areas.

• Steven Roach won the Hamilton County Police Association Honor Guard Officer of the year

• Speed Trailer Sale – Chief Korte listed the trailer on the Ohio Police resource site that is only available to agencies in OH with no success. He informed us he will not put it on the Hamilton County site that is open to anyone.

• Speed limit on Glendale Milford – Chief Korte presented information that supports making the speed limit a consistent 35 MPH for the entire stretch of Glendale-Milford from the west corporation line to Reading Road. The committee supported the recommendation.

• Steve Niehauser will return to full duty next week following his surgery and rehab

• Martel Cameras – Chief Korte informed us that both cameras will be funded from Alcohol fund, appropriation

• Radio Maintenance Contract eliminated for Station Consoles- Chief Korte informed us that Motorola has cancelled the maintenance agreement for these radios. No long term replacement decisions have been made at this time.

•2013 Cruiser replacement will be with Ford Interceptors instead of Dodges because they officers say they are too hard to get in and out of.

2. Fire
• Hiring /Interview Process –had 112 applicants, 90 took the written test with 36 passing (42% in line with past tests) this weekend 2/9/2013 the physical ability test will be administered. Then those who pass will be interviewed by department personnel.
•       Tuition reimbursement – Chief Hauck reported that the Mayor approved the requests of the two dept. members requesting $23,000 & $29,300 towards their Master Program tuition. Committee supports, Mr. Lohmeier believes that the individuals need to make an employment commitment for two additional years after completing their degree.
3. Recreation
Dave Nichols presented that Women’s Wellness Event to be held Tuesday February 12th at 7:00 pm and also that the shelter house remodel estimates are in but did not provide any details.

4. Other Items
• Property Acquisitions
Mayor Apking presented and update on potential property acquisitions the Village is considering.

•       HR policies
•       Jim Brockschmidt & Jack Cameron presented proposed Family Medical Leave Act & COBRA policies. All members were in agreement with the COBRA policy. The FMLA discussion was debated over different areas and understanding. Jack suggested that the conversation be continued next month.
•       John Ranz mentioned his wife suggested since this is the time of the year people have a greater need to have confidential items shredded the Village should offer a free service on a Saturday in April.
